Individual outplacement

Individual outplacement is a service that can be included in the termination package when negotiating the conditions of a working contract termination.

Business value for the employer

  • Providing outplacement services along with a severance package reduces conflict and the potential for lawsuits.
  • Supporting transitioning employees enhances your company’s reputation and demonstrates a commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Value to employees

Outplacement services help employees transition more smoothly from unemployment to a new job. Through these services, employees receive:

  • An assessment of their skills, strengths, and motivations
  • Empowerment for career development
  • Support in crafting a structured career strategy
  • Access to job search resources and assistance
  • Increased chances of reemployment in a shorter time frame

Approach

An outplacement program typically lasts 6 to 12 months, with a follow-up session after the first few months in the new role to ensure the transition is going well.

Steps:
  • Interactive one-to-one interviews and active listening
  • Assessment and self-reflection on personal and professional experience
  • Identifying the best role fit, exploring growth industries, and developing a professional project
  • Formulating a job search or a business creation strategy
  • Job search coaching and advice on business setup strategies
  • Follow-up within 6 months of securing a new position

Cost

Outplacement services are typically funded by the employer.

The potential costs of not offering outplacement services highlight the business value of supporting departing employees

  • Offer emotional support and resources to affected employees
  • Gather feedback and concerns from staff to relay to management
